Roads Not Taken

December 17th, 2005

Although travel writing is a field in which I am eager to participate, something has always prevented me from getting excited about reading a lot of travel writing. I love travel. I love reading. For me, the two should combine as amicably as chocolate and peanut butter. But, I often find myself less inspired than I had hoped when I have finished reading a travel article.

Roads Not Taken, a 2001 article by Thomas Swick suggests a few reasons why this might be the case. While the article itself is old, it’s a good analysis of the craft of travel writing.

RSS Feed

December 14th, 2005

An RSS feed is now available for dsphotographic.com. It combines both the blog and the news sections into one feed for easy viewing. Point your RSS reader here to grab the feed.

And if you have no idea what RSS is all about, XML.com provides some RSS insight:

“RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it’s not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the “recent changes” page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.”

Anyone Want to be My Assistant?

December 13th, 2005

Yes, the exciting opportunity to plan four-plus months of travel awaits you if you are willing to organize my trip to Southeast Asia for me. If you can keep my head from overeflowing with logistics, you’re hired. This is an unpaid position.

And the other unpaid position I have ready for folks out there is someone who is willing to process thousands of photos, prepare them for my stock agencies and post them to this website. Exciting stuff everyone! Get it while it’s hot!

And just because I need to post this in my blog to be able to verify my site, here’s my Technorati Profile.
